Quick answer

  • Cheapest way to stay with Meta: Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) — $379 on Amazon vs $449 for Gen 3.
  • Best for strong or progressive prescriptions: Rokid AI Glasses Style — official Rx range −15.00 to +15.00, progressive included, 38.5 g before lenses.
  • Lightest frame with clear Rx pricing: LookTech AI Glasses — 34 g, single-vision Rx from $85.
  • Under $60 experiment: DPVR G1 — $54.99 on Amazon, but lower ratings and no official Rx program.
  • For gamers / big screen: VITURE Pro 2 ($299, built-in myopia dials) or XREAL 1S ($399, 52° FOV, 3DoF).

Black Friday is Nov 27, 2026 — use the Oct 30 prices below as your baseline.

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) is the default pick for camera-and-AI glasses: 12 MP ultra-wide camera, 3K video, a six-mic array, up to 9 hours of use and an official prescription program. But it starts at $449, and the best pair for you depends on your prescription, your face and what you actually want the glasses to do. Below are the alternatives we could verify — plus the ones we couldn’t.

Price check: what Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 really costs

Some roundups quote Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at $579. On Oct 30, 2026 we found the starting price at $449 on Meta’s store (Wayfarer, Zena and Aviator pages) and on Amazon. Lens choices raise the total — Transitions versions of the previous Gen 2 list at $459 on Amazon, for example — and prescription lenses are priced at checkout once you enter your Rx.

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Official Rx: Meta lists a total power range of −12.00 to +6.00 for Ray-Ban Meta; Gen 3 Aviator is narrower at −6.00 to +4.00. Order through Meta.com, Ray-Ban.com or certified retailers.
  • Rx cost: shown at checkout after you enter your prescription. Ray-Ban.com says it accepts most vision insurance plans and FSA/HSA funds.
  • Fit: Meta says Gen 3 has adjustable temple tips, and Wayfarer comes in a Large size. Ray-Ban stores offer free fitting and adjustment.

The picks

1. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) — cheapest way to stay with Meta

If you want Meta AI, the same app and the same Rx program for less money, the previous generation is the simplest alternative. Amazon lists Gen 2 at up to 8 hours of moderate use plus 48 more from the case, against Gen 3’s 9 + 50. Gen 3 also adds a six-mic array and a smaller camera and LED opening. Amazon had the Matte Black / Clear Wayfarer at $379 on Oct 30.

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) Wayfarer

$379 at our Oct 30 check (one colorway $359.99). Up to 8 hours per charge plus 48 from the case.

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Rx: official, through the same Meta / Ray-Ban prescription program as Gen 3.
  • Fit: Amazon lists this Wayfarer at 50 mm lens / 22 mm bridge / 156 mm arms, and a Wayfarer Large is sold separately. Amazon reviewers are split on fit: some say the frames feel big, others say tight.
  • Gen 2 or Gen 3? See our Ray-Ban Meta vs Oakley Meta comparison for how the Meta family differs.

2. Rokid AI Glasses Style — best for strong or progressive prescriptions

This is the camera-only (no display) Rokid model. Some roundups call it the “Rokid Air”, but Rokid’s Air line is display glasses. Rokid lists a 12 MP Sony IMX681 camera, 3K/30 fps video in clips up to 10 minutes, a TR90 frame with titanium hinges, IPX4 and up to 12 hours of typical use. The Amazon listing is more conservative: 6 hours of music, 5 hours of calls or 45 minutes of video. Rokid’s own store had it at $329 (regular $399) on Oct 30. We could not confirm a working Amazon listing, so the link goes to Rokid.

See Rokid AI Glasses Style on Rokid’s store →

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Official Rx: Rokid lists −15.00 to +15.00 including progressive lenses — the widest range of any camera pick here. At launch, Rokid’s press release listed a $398 bundle with 1.60-index photochromic Rx lenses; check current lens pricing at checkout.
  • Weight: 38.5 g before Rx lenses. Frame size is 53-21 with 157 mm temples.
  • Watch out: Rokid’s own translation figure (76 languages) is lower than the Amazon listing’s (89). Treat feature counts as marketing until you’ve checked them.

3. LookTech AI Glasses — lightest frame, clearest Rx pricing

LookTech lists a 34 g frame, 13 MP camera, 2K/30 fps video and up to 14 hours of mixed use. AI features have a free tier, with an optional membership. It sells direct: $299 on its buy page on Oct 30 (its FAQ still says “from $249”). We found no Amazon listing.

See LookTech AI Glasses on LookTech’s store →

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Official Rx: −6.00 to +4.00. Single vision from $85, progressive from $165, Transitions +$50, high-index lenses up to 1.74. LookTech says a local optician can also fit lenses.
  • Fit: 52 mm lens / 22 mm bridge, 148.5 mm temples and titanium hinges. That’s a smaller frame than Ray-Ban’s standard Wayfarer, so check it against glasses you already own.
  • Watch out: LookTech’s pages disagree on battery capacity (160 vs 185 mAh) and on which AI model it uses, so expect the software to change.

4. DPVR G1 — the under-$60 experiment

The DPVR G1 is a real product sold by DPVR’s official Amazon store. It was $54.99 there on Oct 30, against $89.99 on DPVR’s own site (list $99.99). You get an 8 MP camera, photochromic lenses, translation DPVR says covers 141 language regions, Bluetooth 5.3 and 4 GB of storage. Battery claims are inconsistent: Amazon says 8 hours of talk and 12 of music, while DPVR’s site reverses the two. The rating was 3.7★ from 98 reviews, so buy it to try the idea, not to replace a Ray-Ban Meta.

$54.99 on Amazon at our Oct 30 check (sold by DPVR Official). 8 MP camera, photochromic lenses, recording LED.

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Rx (unofficial): DPVR says the lenses are removable and an optical shop can fit replacements. There’s no official Rx program or price, so ask an optician to quote before you buy.
  • Weight: not published. Comfort over a long day is unknown.
  • Privacy: the recording LED can’t be switched off. That’s good etiquette, but people will see it.

5. Mentra Live — only if you build apps

Mentra Live is now sold at $449 and pitched at developers and businesses. It weighs 43 g, records 1080p video, has an open developer SDK (MentraOS) and comes with a 2,200 mAh charging case; Mentra quotes 8+ hours of mixed use. For most US shoppers it is not a cheaper Ray-Ban Meta. It is a hackable platform.

See Mentra Live on Mentra’s site →

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Rx: single-vision and photochromic lenses only for custom deployments arranged through Mentra’s sales team. There is no self-serve consumer Rx option.
  • Weight: 43 g, a little more than the Rokid and LookTech frames.

For gamers: display glasses instead of camera glasses

Ray-Ban Meta and the picks above have no screen. If you want a big virtual display for a Steam Deck, laptop or phone, you need display glasses. They are a different product class (see our audio vs camera vs display vs AR comparison): usually tethered by USB-C, heavier, and built for sessions, not all-day wear. Our Gaming & Big Screen guide goes deeper.

VITURE Pro 2 — best value for gaming

$299 on Amazon on Oct 30 (4.0★, 957 ratings). Amazon lists 1080p at up to 120 Hz, a 50° field of view and up to 1,600 nits. It weighs 63 g with a range of nose pads. Switch and Switch 2 need extra accessories, and the listing says it is not compatible with iPhone 16e or iPhone Air.

EyeComfy edge: prescription & fit

  • Built-in Rx dials: 0 to −5.00D per eye, for nearsightedness only.
  • Official Rx frame: for astigmatism or stronger prescriptions, VITURE sells a snap-on Rx frame with lenses from $79. It covers SPH −16.00 to +12.00 and CYL −6.00 to +6.00, single vision only (no progressives). Custom lenses can’t be returned, and VITURE showed the frame as backordered on Oct 30.

XREAL 1S — bigger screen, smoother modes

$399 on Amazon on Oct 30, against a $449 list price (4.0★, 362 ratings). XREAL lists 1920×1200 per eye, a 52° field of view, up to 120 Hz, Bose-tuned audio, electrochromic dimming and native 3DoF from its X1 chip, so you can anchor the screen or switch to ultrawide. The frame weighs 82 g. Switch play needs a dock or XREAL’s Neo hub.

  • Official Rx inserts: made by XREAL’s third-party partner. $49.90 on sale on Oct 30 (regular $149.90). They can’t be returned and ship from China in about 10 business days, so order early if you want them before the holidays.
  • Fit: XREAL lists an IPD range of 59.5–70.5 mm. If your PD is outside that, check with XREAL before buying.

Black Friday buying tips (Nov 27, 2026)

  • Baseline first: the Oct 30 prices in this guide are your reference. A “deal” on Gen 3 should beat $449. Gen 2 has already been seen at $359.99 in one colorway.
  • Rx is the hidden cost: Meta prices Rx at checkout, LookTech publishes its prices, and XREAL and VITURE inserts are custom-made and non-returnable. Budget for lenses before you count the savings.
  • Check return windows: retailer holiday return windows often cover the frame but not custom lenses.
  • Watch the shipping dates: insert lead times run from about 3–7 business days (VITURE) to about 10 business days from China (XREAL).
  • Shopping for someone else? See our smart glasses gift guide by budget.

What we left out (and why)

  • “AI 4K Transition Smart Glasses” (~$145): no identifiable brand or maker page, so we couldn’t verify specs, support or warranty.
  • XREAL One: showed as unavailable on Amazon on Oct 30. XREAL itself calls the 1S its replacement.
  • Rokid on Amazon: we couldn’t open a working listing, so we link to Rokid’s store instead.

FAQ

What is the best Ray-Ban Meta alternative?

It depends on why you want an alternative. To save money and stay with Meta, buy Gen 2. For a strong or progressive prescription, Rokid AI Glasses Style has the widest official Rx range we found. For a light frame with published lens prices, look at LookTech. For gaming, you want display glasses like VITURE Pro 2 or XREAL 1S, not camera glasses.

Is Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 really $579?

Not at our Oct 30, 2026 check. Gen 3 started at $449 on Meta’s store and Amazon. Lens upgrades and prescription lenses add to that.

Which Ray-Ban Meta alternatives work with prescription lenses?

Official Rx programs: Ray-Ban Meta (−12.00 to +6.00), Rokid AI Glasses Style (−15.00 to +15.00) and LookTech (−6.00 to +4.00). VITURE and XREAL offer clip-in or snap-on inserts. DPVR G1 has removable lenses but no official program.

Do any of these support progressive lenses?

Rokid lists progressive lenses. LookTech prices progressives from $165, and Ray-Ban’s prescription program includes progressive lenses (confirm the option shows for your Meta frame at checkout). VITURE’s Rx frame is single vision only. See our progressive lenses guide.

Can I play games on Ray-Ban Meta or these camera glasses?

No. They have no display. For gaming you need display glasses that connect over USB-C, such as VITURE Pro 2 or XREAL 1S. Nintendo Switch usually needs a dock or a hub like XREAL Neo.

Are $50 smart glasses worth it?

As an experiment, maybe. DPVR G1 is a real, official-store product at $54.99, but its rating (3.7★) and inconsistent battery specs mean you should expect compromises.

Should I wait for Black Friday?

If you can wait until Nov 27, compare against the prices above and the shipping time for custom lenses. Don’t let a frame discount hide a high Rx bill.
