Gifting smart glasses works better when you match the job, not a price band. This guide groups options by use case — open-ear audio / capture+AI, wearable display, prescription-ready frames, and a small desk comfort add-on. Specs and eligibility change; confirm on the maker help page and the live Amazon listing before you buy.

Audio + camera / AI (lifestyle frames)

Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta are camera + open-ear audio glasses with Meta AI. They are not virtual monitors. Meta’s help page documents how to order prescription lenses for Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, Meta Glasses, and Meta Ray-Ban Display, and lists eligible ranges that differ by model — for example Meta Help (checked Oct 28 2026) states Ray-Ban Meta support of −12.00 to +6.00 total power, with Gen 3 Aviator called out at −6.00 to +4.00. Always re-check: Meta Help — order prescription lenses.

Privacy cue: treat the LED / recording indicator as a camera in public. Ask before filming people.

Display / AR (virtual monitors)

Xreal One-class and Viture-class glasses are primarily wearable external monitors. They usually need a USB-C host with DisplayPort Alt Mode. Xreal’s One-series user guide covers inserting prescription lenses for myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism via partner inserts (lens frames differ by model) — see XREAL One Series user guide and the One/1S prescription lens product page. Viture markets myopia dials on some models and magnetic prescription frames — confirm the exact SKU on the maker page before gifting.

Prescription path gifts

If the recipient already wears Rx, prefer frames with an official maker Rx path rather than “we’ll figure it out later.” Deep dives:

Do not gift based on a blog’s guessed Rx range. Use Meta Help / Oakley / Xreal / Viture order forms for the recipient’s written prescription.

Small desk comfort add-on

Not smart glasses — a soft monitor light bar can reduce harsh screen-to-room contrast on long desk days. Comfort tool only; not a medical device and not a substitute for an eye exam.

Gift checklist (print or screenshot)

  • Confirm the use case (audio/camera vs display vs Rx-daily).
  • Confirm phone OS / host device compatibility on the maker page.
  • If Rx: gather current prescription + PD; order only within the maker’s published range.
  • Budget for case, charger, and (for display glasses) the right USB-C cable or adapter.
  • Check return windows on Amazon and the maker — custom Rx lenses are often non-returnable.
