Quick answer

  • Longest per-charge figure we found: Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) and Oakley Meta Vanguard, both up to 9 hours by Meta’s count, as reported at launch.
  • Biggest case reserve: Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) case, up to an additional 50 hours, as reported at launch.
  • Audio-only frames: Echo Frames (3rd Gen) list up to 6 hours continuous playback, or up to 14 hours of Amazon’s “moderate” mix.
  • Display glasses (XREAL One): no internal battery; they run off the device you plug into.
  • Every figure is “up to.” Makers measure under their own test conditions. Video, livestreaming and loud audio drain faster.

Battery life is one of the most-asked questions about smart glasses, and also one of the easiest to misread. Each maker counts it differently: “typical use,” “moderate usage,” “continuous audio,” “mixed use.” This page lines up what each maker actually says, in their words, so you can compare like with like. We haven’t run our own battery tests, so we don’t rank one pair as “really” lasting longer than another.

How we research

Every number on this page is the maker’s own claim, taken from its help center, legal page or listing, or from launch coverage that reports the maker’s figures, checked on Nov 1, 2026. The exact wording is saved in our evidence file. Where a maker uses a different test (continuous audio vs. mixed use), we keep their label next to the number. Read more on our how we research page.

Battery life compared

Glasses Per charge (maker wording) Charging case Type
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) Up to 9 hours Up to an additional 50 hours Camera + AI + audio
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) Up to 8 hours, typical use Up to 48 hours of charge time (Gen 2 case) Camera + AI + audio
Oakley Meta HSTN Up to 8 hours Up to 48 hours total with the case Camera + AI + audio
Oakley Meta Vanguard Up to 9 hours general use; up to 6 hours continuous audio Up to an additional 36 hours of charging Sport camera + AI + audio
Meta Ray-Ban Display Up to 6 hours mixed use Up to 30 total hours with fully charged case Display + camera + AI
Meta Neural Band (with Display) Up to 18 hours Charges separately Wrist controller
Echo Frames (3rd Gen) Up to 6 hours continuous playback/talk at 80% volume; up to 14 hours moderate use No charging case listed Audio + Alexa
XREAL One No internal battery (powered by connected device) n/a Display glasses

All figures are the makers’ own “up to” claims as published on Nov 1, 2026. Meta says battery life varies by use, configuration, settings and many other factors. Figures for Gen 3, HSTN, Vanguard and Display are Meta’s claims as reported in launch coverage (Notebookcheck, GSMArena, Thurrott); check the maker’s page before you buy.

Per-charge hours vs. case reserve, using maker claims only.

How to read maker battery claims

Three things trip people up:

  • “Typical” or “moderate” use is a mix, not hours of non-stop recording. Amazon is unusually specific about its mix for Echo Frames: 2 hours 30 minutes of media playback, 1 hour of talk time, 20 Alexa interactions and 90 incoming notifications across the day.
  • Continuous audio is a separate, shorter number. Oakley Meta Vanguard is reported at up to 9 hours of general use but 6 hours of continuous audio playback.
  • Case hours are recharge capacity, not extra hours you get while wearing the glasses. You still need to put the glasses back in the case to top them up.

The models, one by one

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3)

Notebookcheck’s launch report says Gen 3 raises battery life from 8 hours on Gen 2 to 9 hours, and that the charging case adds up to an additional 50 hours. Meta’s Gen 3 charging case page says that case also works with Gen 1 and Gen 2 glasses. Notebookcheck — Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3).

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2)

Meta’s launch post says a fully charged Gen 2 pair can last up to eight hours with typical use. Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta disclosures page lists up to 48 hours of charge time from the Gen 2 case (32 hours for Gen 1). If you already own Gen 2, our Gen 3 alternatives guide covers whether an upgrade makes sense.

Meta Ray-Ban Display and Neural Band

Thurrott’s launch report says Meta promises up to six hours of mixed-use battery life and up to 30 hours of total battery life with the collapsible charging case (Thurrott). The Neural Band wristband that controls it is rated separately: up to 18 hours on a single charge. Meta Help — battery life on Meta Ray-Ban Display and Neural Band. For more on display glasses, see our display and AR glasses guide.

Echo Frames (3rd Gen)

Amazon’s listing gives up to 6 hours of continuous media playback or talk time at 80% volume, or up to 14 hours with its defined moderate usage, and says the frames fully charge in about 2.5 hours with a 5W adapter (not included). These are audio frames: no camera and no display.

XREAL One (display glasses)

XREAL’s setup guide says disconnecting the cable cuts power and shuts the glasses down. In other words, “battery life” here means your phone, laptop or console’s battery. Plan for a charger or power bank on long trips. XREAL — connect devices.

Practical ways to get closer to the maker numbers

  • Case them between uses. On Meta models, the case is the recharge; glasses left on a desk don’t top up.
  • Video and livestreams cost the most. If you need a long day, save recording for the moments that matter.
  • Carry the right cable. Check what’s in the box; Echo Frames ship without the adapter.
  • Check the firmware. Makers sometimes change power behavior in updates; read the release notes in the companion app.

These are our practical suggestions, not maker claims.

FAQ

Which smart glasses have the longest battery life?

By maker claims on Nov 1, 2026, Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) and Oakley Meta Vanguard are both reported at up to 9 hours per charge. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 case is reported to add up to 50 hours, the largest reserve we found. We haven’t tested them ourselves.

Does the case battery count as wearing time?

No. Case hours are how much recharging the case can deliver. You have to put the glasses back in the case to use them.

Why do display glasses have no battery figure?

Many, like XREAL One, have no internal battery and draw power from the device they’re plugged into. Check your phone or laptop’s battery instead.

Can I use the Gen 3 case with older Ray-Ban Meta glasses?

Meta says the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) charging case works with Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 glasses.

Do the makers’ figures hold up in real life?

They are “up to” figures under each maker’s test conditions. Meta says battery life varies by use, configuration, settings and other factors. Expect less with heavy video or loud audio.
