Research-based guide. We have not hands-on tested every model below. Specs cited from manufacturer help pages as of Oct 28 2026 (America/New_York). Author: The EyeComfy team.
EyeComfy covers smart glasses & AR for everyone; this page focuses on Rx paths.
This hub is for prescription wearers (a strong path on EyeComfy, not the whole brand): what Rx paths exist, where progressives get tricky, and how to choose without inventing specs.
Quick answer: Match form factor (audio / camera AI / display AR) to your use case, then check that model’s official prescription path (full lens vs insert vs wear-over). We cite Meta’s published ranges below and link official help — always re-check for your country and frame.

Who this is for
People who wear single-vision or progressive Rx daily, prefer not to use contacts all day, or need clear guidance on inserts vs factory Rx lenses. If you mainly want open-ear audio or a portable display and don’t need Rx in the smart frames, start with our types comparison hub instead.

Prescription paths explained
- Full Rx lenses — maker or partner lab grinds your prescription into the smart-glass lenses. Meta documents ordering for Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Meta Ray-Ban Display via Meta.com / Ray-Ban.com / Oakley.com and certified retailers (Meta AI Glasses Help — prescription lenses).
- Prescription inserts — magnetic or clip inserts behind / in front of plano smart lenses. Common on display/XR glasses (Xreal clip-in frame; Viture magnetic frame with optional custom lenses). Confirm SKU and return rules on the maker’s site.
- Wear over existing glasses — uncommon for camera AI frames; sometimes workable for larger display headsets. Fit and fogging trade-offs apply.
- Contact lenses + smart frames — works for many people; not a substitute for discussing options with your eye-care professional.
We never invent “safe Rx ranges.” When a maker publishes a range, we cite it with a date and link. Always confirm on the manufacturer’s prescription page for your country before you buy lenses.

Meta / Ray-Ban / Oakley published ranges
Per Meta’s help article How to order prescription lenses for AI glasses (checked Oct 28 2026):
- Ray-Ban Meta (general): eligible range −12.00 to +6.00 total power.
- Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Aviator: −6.00 to +4.00 (narrower than other Gen 3 shapes).
- Ordering: Meta.com, Ray-Ban.com, and participating certified retailers; some markets also allow adding Rx later at certified retailers.
Note on older Ray-Ban materials: An earlier Ray-Ban Meta prescription PDF quoted −6.00 to +4.00 for some regions/workflows. Treat Meta’s current help page as the primary source and ask your retailer which range applies to your exact frame + country.
Meta Store marketing pages for Blayzer Optics / Scriber Optics (Gen 2 “prescription optimized”) also list −6.00 to +6.00 for direct Meta orders; press coverage has described wider options via optical retailers — confirm with the seller, not with us.
Oakley Meta HSTN shares Meta’s Rx ordering path; confirm the live range on Meta/Oakley help for your SKU before paying for lenses.
Comparison snapshot
| Model / class | Rx path | Progressives? | Weight band | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta (AI / camera) | Full Rx via Meta / Ray-Ban / certified retailers; Help: −12.00 to +6.00 total power (Gen 3 Aviator −6.00 to +4.00) | Ask retailer / lab — not claimed here | ~51.5–54.5 g depending on Gen 3 shape (maker listings) | Lifestyle camera + open-ear audio; privacy LED matters |
| Oakley Meta HSTN | Full Rx via Meta / Oakley / certified path | Ask retailer | Check current product page | Sportier face; same Meta AI family |
| Display / XR (Xreal / Viture class) | Insert / magnetic frame (maker or partner); Viture also has built-in myopia dial up to −5.0D per Viture product copy | Often single-vision inserts only — check maker | Varies; tethered display glasses often lighter on face but need USB-C host | Portable monitor job — different from Meta camera glasses |
| Audio-first frames | Brand-dependent; many are plano or optical partners | Brand-dependent | Usually lighter | No camera in many models — etiquette simpler |
Cross-check every cell against maker docs before you treat this as finished buying advice. For Meta family face/fit, see Ray-Ban Meta vs Oakley Meta. Also use Meta’s virtual try-on and a certified retailer.

Progressives & multifocals
Progressive corridors and smart-glass geometry do not always play well together. Corridor height, pantoscopic tilt, and insert thickness can change usable vision zones. Prefer a certified optical partner who has glazed that exact smart frame. We do not list progressive SKUs from memory — ask Meta/Oakley certified retailers or your optician. Deeper dive: smart glasses with progressive lenses.

Buying checklist
- Confirm your use case: capture + AI, open-ear audio, or portable display.
- Pull your current Rx + PD from your optician; do not guess numbers from old glasses.
- Check official Rx path and country availability before paying for lenses.
- Budget for case, nose pads, and spare charging — see accessories worth buying.
- Read privacy / recording etiquette if the frames have a camera — start at smart glasses for travel.
